Petitioning Stephen Jones
I believe it is time to petition Stephen Jones about this issue of accreditation. We've seen several examples of transfer credits being denied. We know that professional certificates can be denied especially in education. And we've seen that students are being denied Grad School based on accreditation. These, unfortunately, are but a few of the stories that could be told in an ever growing list of people struggling over this issue. The problem isn't really that BJU made a principled stand against accreditation only to then turn their back and receive accreditation. The problem is that they gloss over the issues pertaining to accreditation, playing a game where the only person that can get hurt is the student who spent precious hours for a degree that many people refuse to recognize.
I'm not, nor have I ever, asked the administration to add negative information to their website. However, I believe that they should include information to their website regarding accreditation so that parents and students alike can make the most informed decision. Not unlike what many other schools have done. A page informing parents about the various types of accreditation will go a long way to restoring honesty. This page need only mention that there are various types including regional and national and then to let people know which one Bob Jones University has.
So I've created a petition. Please sign the petition and pass this along to as many people as you know who have graduated or attended Bob Jones University.
Update: I changed my mind about the original petition. The new petition is found here and is at ipetion. If you signed the original I'm sorry do you mind signing this one as well...thanks
