In Vol. 25 Num. 13 Published Friday January 27, 2012 you can read the following admission from Bob Jones University.

In academia, particularly in public school academia, a teacher is paid on a grid. The two main factors are years of experience and amount of education. An undergraduate degree is assumed, so the lowest pay scale starts with a bachelors degree and zero years of experience. From there the next jump is attaining grad credits or particularly a graduate degree. From there it is Grad plus so many credits and finally holding a terminal degree.

A reader of this blog pointed out the following section from John MacArthur's testimony.

PHIL: Right. So you went to college. You went to a Christian college.
JOHN: I did. My Dad wanted me to go to Bob Jones University. I didn't want to go. I wanted to play football and baseball and basketball. They didn't have any athletics.

Ten years ago, I was a student at Bob Jones University.

Ten years ago, Bob Jones University was unaccredited. It lacked institutional accreditation of any kind--national or regional, Christian or secular. In fact, BJU went out of its way to insult and criticize all other schools that were accredited.

Monday Bob Jones University announced that they are "investigating" SACS accreditation. That has led me on an investigation on what it takes to be accredited. One document I've been looking through is the Principles of Accreditation. I found an interesting piece of information. One that confirms what I've been saying here all along. It has to do with transfer credits.

It is that time of year. Actually you should probably already be planning, but if you aren't  it isn't too late to start planning for grad school. If you are thinking about going to grad school outside of Bob Jones University when you graduate you need to start planning now if you are a senior or junior.

For a masters degree the deadline is typically in December or early January. For Doctorate or PhD the deadline can be earlier. So start your planning.

What do I want to major in?

Bob Jones University has a FAQ page about their new bjuonline course offerings. Under the section Will My Credits Transfer they have the following.

As is true with all transfer credits, it is wise to check with the college you intend to graduate from to make sure they will accept the credits for the courses you wish to take. Our students rarely have trouble transferring credits to other institutions.

In case you haven't seen we've started a petition to Stephen Jones hoping that it might help clarify issues regarding accreditation. By the way I'm looking for more signatures, please spread the word.
