Bob Bixby wrote a blog post entitled Why I Signed The Petition To Remove Chuck Phelps from the Board of Bob Jones University. It is a compelling read from a completely different perspective. I would like to share some choice quotes and thoughts from that article, but I encourage you to go and read the whole thing for yourself.

In response to the official statement put out by Bob Jones University yesterday people have been calling Chuck Phelps directly to get his side of the story. When asked whether he owes Tina Anderson an apology here was his response:

Mr. Phelps adamantly maintained that he owned [sic, recte owed] Tina no apology whatsoever.

Bob Jones University's official response to the Chuck Phelps controversy includes an implied reference to a principal taken from Matthew 18. They didn't actually quote that passage, but presumably it is taken from here.

In a statement released today Bob Jones University has responded [Note: BJU seems to have removed the page. Please see the attached screenshot below] to the criticism of Chuck Phelps being allowed back on the board. Lets jump right in shall we.

MPT over at Jesus Needs New PR wrote a post entitled What Many of America's Churches Have In Common with Penn State. Penn State, as you may know, has been rocked in scandal as of late. The charges boil down to abuse, but the scandal is that the abuse was covered up by key officials at Penn State.

Earlier this year 20/20 did an expose on Fundamentalism and abuse. The most prominent story featured a church, Trinity Baptist Church in Concord NH, who's pastor at the time was Chuck Phelps. If your memory is failing you follow this link for all of our previous coverage.

We've been covering the Tina Anderson trial here and finally a verdict has been reached. Willis has been found guilty on all 4 counts. This is a huge win for Tina. Tina may this bring you peace and comfort. But it also has broader implications for various other parties involved. Certainly Chuck Phelps has some explaining to do as he simply failed to do his duty in 1997.

We've had ongoing coverage of the Tina Anderson story since the 20/20 story broke in ABC. WMUR of New Hampshire has been live tweeting the trial and today Chuck Phelps, pastor of Trinity Baptist church at the time of Tina's rape, took the stand. There are a couple of things that caught my eye that I want to report on.

A couple of weeks ago ABC produced a 20/20 show about the IFB and particular abuses that have happened to members of those churches. During the episode Brian Fuller, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Concord NH, was adamant that there is absolutely no network between IFB churches. I did a series of 3 posts on the topic.
