Do Right BJU

Bob Jones University today released the Findings of the Committee that Reviewed BJU’s Sexual Abuse Policy and Its Application. From what I can tell this is a good step (even if small) in the right direction for Bob Jones University. They seem to have recognized that things weren't being handled in the proper way in the past and that there was some confusion at the school. And it looks like they may put some mechanisms into place to both deal with future events and reconcile past ones. 

I know that many people wonder why it would be useful to break down an old document from 1995. The primary reason for doing so is the insistence by Bob Jones III that SACS is the one who has changed, and that Bob Jones University hasn't changed at all.

Not long ago I covered the entire Do Right protest. As part of that coverage I highlighted a story where Bob Jones University tried to censor the student heading up the whole protest. Around that same time Bob Jones University announced that they were seeking regional accreditation.

Darrell over at Stuff Fundies Like posted an excellent post about Being Right. In recent weeks I've been coming to the same conclusion. In Fundamentalism, and especially at BJU, it seems that being right is more important than anything else. This was first seen with BJU's insistence on defending Chuck Phelps.

Tomorrow is the big day. To the students, faculty and alum who will be there tomorrow know that we who cannot make it stand behind you. Tomorrow is a big day, and a perfect opportunity to finally have a voice. Don't be intimidated let your voice be heard. For those who cannot make it I challenge you to change your Facebook profile pic to red in solidarity.

On Wednesday two things happened. First Greenville Online posted an article about BJU's announcement to pursue regional accreditation, and Bob Jones III gave a rant about their pursuit of regional accreditation. Among the many contradictions in Bob Jones III's rant one really stuck out to me.

It appears that today's chapel will not be posted online. It is almost 5 and last I checked it was still not posted on sermon audio. With that in mind a student did take notes. So I'd like to share the notes from today's sermon.
